Grace Kelbel: A Rising Star

Grace Kelbel: A Rising Star

Golf is always looking for the next big crossover star who will capture the imagination of the mainstream audience. Since Tiger Woods’ fall from grace, it’s been hard to find that individual. While it’s hard to put that kind of pressure on anyone, 17 year-old Grace Kelbel has the potential to someday reach such lofty expectations. She’s certainly starting to get national attention, at least within golf circles.

The biggest factor working in Kelbel’s favor is excellent genetics for the sport: her great-grandfather, grandfather, father, and uncles have all been professional golfers. This makes Grace the fourth generation to carry on the family legacy. Luckily, there has been some excellent guidance and education to go along with her DNA. Her father is the head golf coach at Walloon Lake Country Club located in Michigan. He’s been Grace’s coach throughout her life, teaching her the fundamentals and knowing where improvements need to be made as she improves.

With female athletes like Ronda Rousey getting the national spotlight, the gender gap is starting to close where fame is concerned. Grace has a long way to go, but is on the right path to success. At the age of 17, she’s received All-State and All-Conference Honors for Division 2. Grace is renowned for being an exceptionally hard worker, getting in lots of practice at Walloon Lake while also staying on top of her academic responsibilities. With college and/or professional play on the horizon, she is on a trajectory to follow the family legacy in major golf tournaments in the coming years.
